MARCH 7, 2010 - THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT
This week I have several updates for you and some new information.
Our Lady of the Angels parish renewal - Tuesdays in March following the 6:30 Mass in St. Augustine Church. March 9 Eucharist: we are nourished and become the Body of Christ March 16: Reconciliation: we renew our relationship with God and each other. March 23: Confirmation: we reaffirm our commitment to live our Faith. March 30: Sacred Triduum: we journey with Christ toward the Resurrection.
Just a quick update some of the projects going on in the church. The refurbishing of the four side altars will be completed before Holy Week which is the week of March 28th. Work on creating the devotional space for the image of the Black Madonna will begin soon. The inside of the confessional located near the pianos will be converted for that purpose. The St. Ann tryptich has been mounted on the wall inside the Church to your left. I continue to work with a liturgical artist in obtaining a cross for the sanctuary.
Two weeks ago I told you about the success of this years Roaring 20s Gala. I should have an idea of how we did financially in a week or so. Credit card transactions are still being processed. Next weekend there will a combined second collection in support of the Catholic Home Missions, which supports places like Appalachia, the Deep South, the Southwest and the Rocky mountain states where the Catholic Church struggles to keep parishes open and to educate children in the faith. National Collection for Black and Indian Missions which assists with the evangelization of Black, American Indian, Eskimo and Aleute communities. Catholic Campaign for Human Development which assists people across the nation in breaking the cycle of poverty.
There is a second collection today in support of our debt reduction program.
I am out of the parish this weekend participating in the Rachaels Vineyard retreat for women and men who have experienced the pain of abortion. The retreat is at the Spiritan Retreat Center, Bethel Park. Please keep the retreat team and those who have come for healing in your prayers.
The School Study Task Force met again this past Tuesday to further discuss ways to ensure Catholic Education in our area. The Task Force is made up of select representatives from Immaculate Conception-St. Joseph, Our Lady of the Angels, St. Lawrence OToole and St. Matthew parishes, which includes the pastors. Agenda items included affordable tuition, creating a solid financial plan, public relations and how the parishes could work and support each other in affecting this common vision. The next meeting is scheduled for March 30th.
Thanks for all you do for our parish and for making it the vibrant, life giving Faith community that it is. May this Lenten Season be one of special grace and blessing for you. Father John | |
